Between January 2015 and May 2015, Emily Cornuet and Kehmari Norman, previously students at Temple University, met with 6 children from the Norris Homes After School Program once a week inside of Temple University’s Tyler School of Art. They talked with the children about their community, their dream homes, and their futures living in Philadelphia. The kids learned basic gardening techniques at a local community garden a few blocks from their homes. They saw how life starts with just one seed, but then can grow into a fully grown plant that produces fruit. They also learned basic 3D modeling skills using a computer program called SketchUp, and used it to design their dream homes. They built small toys out of scrap pieces of wood and brought them to the garden where plants could grow and flourish out of them.
